Recently, a friend of mine, joined a new direct selling company. While the company had the greatest intentions, their follow-through with support and delivering on their promises has been horrible.
My friend's starter kit took over 2 months to be shipped. Other new consultants are waiting weeks to get a response to an email..if they ever do get one. And some have tried to order merchandise for shows, only to still be waiting a month later with no product/no response.
When you find yourself in this situation, do you ride it out or cut your losses?

Help Marie Get Out of Her Comfort Zone!

I just started selling jewellry in June. I sold to all my friends and family. Now I need to expand!But first I need to get out of my comfort zone (difficult!) and get over my shyness.
I want to contact social clubs to offer a jewelry presentation, and in return I would give a % of my sale to the club. I have a list of phone numbers but no contact person.
These calls would be cold.How would you approach the person in question? I need a script to get me started...I don't know what to say at all to get the conversation going. Help!I would really like for people to give a "script" example of what they say when they call people or organisations.
I think that doing presentations in social clubs will get the ball rolling as I could meet different people, probably get bookings and so on. I just need to know what to say to get started.
Any suggestions anyone? What ideas can you offer Marie?

Wow, can you believe that tomorrow is November 1st? How fast the time flies. I hope your fall selling season was as spectacular is the fall foliage in my area.

Now is a great time to focus on your holiday products and gift ideas as potential hostesses will be thinking of family and preparing for the Holiday season.

One suggestion is to offer affordable gift giving ideas...gifts that will either enhance someone's life or leave a lasting impression of the the thoughtfulness of the gift giver. Go through your catalog and make a note of those items and highlight them when doing your in-home presentations.

Working Online

One of the things I have learned about working online is that is takes commitment and time.

If you are on a limited budget, you can spread the word by doing free post in groups and boards. I have had the best results with boards as the reader has to go there to post and thus this increases your chances of being seen and read. Groups, especially the many that can be found at Yahoo, are still worth your time, however, I do see more and more of the exaggerated claims about income in these groups.

Look for groups and boards that fit the demographics of your product, service or opportunity. Post in groups on the days they allow advertising and post in forums only in the category they allow outright ads. I use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of the many boards I advertise on, while for my Yahoo groups, I have them organized by day using Yahoo's address setup. With Yahoo, I can add group emails in an address group, email it once and it goes to all in that group. A great and easy feature to get the word out there fast.

Be sure to use a junk email or several when advertising online.

Preparing for a Fair

Here are some of my suggestions for creating results from an outdoor fair or event. I welcome your ideas too!

Create a display that is both attractive and eye catching. Add height and color.
If you have a banner, use it. If not purchase the clear acrylic stands and make your own....adding interest. You can also take the cover of your catalog and have it enlarged and laminated...put in a frame and create a nice eye catching display that draws attention.
Don't just give away catalogs. Request their contact info in exchange.
Some prefer to offer a drawing to create interest while others feel this is a waste of time. I do plan to offer a drawing since I have product I can use.
Look like you are having fun!
Put stickers on catalogs that say, "Put a date on my calendar and receive a special incentive." Use this terminology instead of saying, "Book a Show."
Have booking and recruiting packets ready to give to those who are serious about joining your business or putting a date on your calendar.

Well, these are just a few tips to help you create success at your fair or festival. Perhaps you have some too?

Well, if you tried this, then you are now suffering the consequences of your actions or lack of actions should we say? So what do you do? Here are some tips to get you back on track:

Contact previous Hostesses
Hold a Fall Open House
Participate in Fall Festivals and Fairs - So many small and large cities have fall festivals which will expose your business to new potential customers and recruits.
Mail out a preview of your new fall catalog/line.
Offer a special booking incentive.
And of course, promise yourself to never join the DS M.I.A. again.
